What an FD calculator tells you

A fixed deposit calculator gives you a quick estimate of how much your deposit may earn over a chosen period. Enter the amount, rate, tenure, and interest preference to see the expected interest and maturity value in one place.

Why use one?

FD returns depend on several inputs, so doing the calculation by hand can be easy to get wrong. An estimate helps you compare different amounts, tenures, and rates before discussing the final terms with a bank or NBFC.

  • See the expected maturity amount quickly.
  • Compare simple and compound interest assumptions.
  • Understand how reinvestment changes the result.

Simple-interest formula

For simple interest, the return is calculated only on the original principal:

M = P + (P × r × t ÷ 100)

Here, P is the deposit, r is the annual rate, and t is the tenure in years. For example, ₹1,00,000 at 10% for 5 years produces ₹50,000 interest and a ₹1,50,000 maturity value before other considerations.

Compound-interest formula

For a cumulative deposit, interest can be added back at the selected frequency:

A = P(1 + r ÷ n)n×t

n is the number of compounding periods per year. This calculator uses quarterly compounding by default, while also allowing yearly, half-yearly, or monthly assumptions.

How to use this calculator

Start with the deposit amount and annual rate shown in your FD offer. Choose years or months, select simple or compound interest, and decide whether interest is reinvested or paid out periodically. The schedule and charts update as you change an input.

Before you open an FD

Use the result for planning, not as a guaranteed quote. Check the institution’s rate, tenure rules, payout schedule, tax and TDS treatment, premature-withdrawal conditions, and any senior-citizen benefit that applies to your specific product.
